Syria-Lebanon border seems “Very Desperate”
The citizens of Syria and Lebanon are forced to relocate with their families to save their lives after the severe humanitarian crisis caused by Israel. This results in further worser conditions like loss of livelihoods, basic resources and medical facilities for the refugees and local people of both the countries.
“The damage caused by Israeli airstrikes on Joussieh border crossing point between Syria-Lebanon has rendered the road inaccessible to vehicles.
But we are still seeing people desperate to flee Lebanon crossing on foot.
Our facilities at the border sustained significant damage” – UNHCR (November 5, 2024)
“Our teams at the Syria-Lebanon borders continue to report a very desperate situation.
Over 71% of arrivals to Syria are Syrian.
Many tell us they sold the little they had to afford the journey back home.
UNHCR is helping, but the needs are huge & more funding is needed” – UNHCR (November 4, 2024)
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, has expressed his grief and pain for the ongoing severe Israeli attacks on Lebanon and he said that a “very desperate situation” is witnessed at the border of Syria.
Adverse Consequences
- 1.4 million people were displaced and forced to become refugees due to the continuous violence.
- Lack of food, shelter, & medical essentials.
- 3,002 Lebanese citizens have been killed and 13,500 injured due to the air strikes of Israel.
