Rolls-Royce Powers Egypt’s Eco-Friendly MDF Plant with Gas Gensets

Rolls-Royce has ordered ten mtu gas gensets to produce non-grid electricity for the WOTECH in Beheira province of Egypt. This is the first factory of its kind in Africa that synthesizes MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) from rice straw which is a residual part of the rice growing process. In WOTECH’s utilization of rice straw, the company reduces air pollution and CO2 emissions while providing an environmentally friendly substitute for conventional wooden products and building materials.

The MTU Series 4000 L64 FNER gensets – with an overall rated capacity of 25MW – provide reliable power to the plant that is not connected to the public power grid. Two genera sets are available each with a power output of 2,500 kW and a six-and-a-half operation lifespan of 84,000 hours.

The gensets were installed by Rolls-Royce with the help of Egypt’s Industrial Integrated Electronics Company INDE and Egyptian Mansourah for Manufacturing and Construction EMC. Tobias Ostermaier, President of Stationary Power Solutions at Rolls-Royce, highlighted their importance: This underlines the fact that the dependability of the mtu gen-sets enables us to operate without interruption and with optimized emissions.

This partnership demonstrates that international cooperation can lead to the development of innovation, sustainability, and industrialization in Egypt.
