Leonard’s night was nearly over after a brutal collision between Penn State’s Zane Durant and Dwaun Jay-Thomas late in the first half. Leonard was knocked down and the back of his helmet hit the ground, causing concern among coaches and staff. He was immediately taken to the medical tent for a concussion evaluation. The medical team performed thorough tests and cleared him to return to the field.
Leonard said “I think our medical support team, first and foremost, did a really good job”. “I got up a little wobbly. So, that’s an indicator that they’ve got to take me to the tent and through all the concussion tests. We went through all the tests and they decided I was good to go back.”

Notre Dame will now focus on preparing for the national championship game, where they will face off against either Ohio State or Texas. The title game on January 20.
