Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed strong support for former U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza temporarily. During an interview with Fox News Netanyahu called the proposal “remarkable” and said it should be “seriously pursued, examined, and implemented.”

“The idea of allowing Gazans who want to leave to leave—what’s wrong with that? They can leave, then come back, or relocate and return. But you have to rebuild Gaza,” Netanyahu stated. He believes the plan could “create a different future for everyone.”

Trump’s proposal introduced two weeks into his new term, aims to transform Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” The plan focuses on rebuilding the war-torn strip, which has suffered 16 months of Israeli bombardment, resulting in over 47,000 Palestinian deaths, according to local reports.

While U.S. officials clarified that Gazans would only be “temporarily relocated” during reconstruction.
