Morocco and Senegal Reaffirm Friendship, Strengthen Trade Ties After AFCON Drama

The Morocco Senegal relations have taken a centre stage once again as the two nations acted in a rapid manner to re-establish diplomatic goodwill and economic partnership after the tensions at the Africa Cup of Nations final. Although the two football opponents have had some heated rivalry over a controversial game, the leaders in Rabat and Dakar pointed out that the issue surrounding sports would not ruin the old relationship. As Morocco Senegal relations are not new and have a long history of mutual historical background, culture, and trade, both governments took the opportunity to emphasize on the unity. The rejuvenated interest in the relations between Morocco and Senegal brings out a more inclusive interest in stability, regional cooperation, and mutual development throughout Africa.
Morocco and Senegal Deepen Economic Cooperation
The relations of Morocco Senegal received a new impulse as the countries signed 17 cooperation agreements in the fields of agriculture, infrastructure, fisheries, mining and promotion of investments. Authorities emphasized that the tensions in the recent AFCON were not political divisions, but those of emotion. Senegal regards Morocco as one of the investors in the African region especially in the banking, energy and agricultural sectors, whereas Morocco regards Senegal as an export destination and strategic location in West Africa. The reinforcement of Morocco Senegal relationships is also part of the broader African outreach strategy by Morocco and the strategy of Senegal to encourage foreign investment and enhances the partnership between Morocco and Senegal as a partnership of trust, solidarity and long term economic interests.
