Breaking: Egypt’s Free Cinema October Kicks Off: 11 Films to Watch at Garden City Cinema Palace

The General Authority for Cultural Palaces officially opened its eagerly awaited Egypt’s Free Cinema October program today, October 6, 2026 in a major cultural event. The event is a unique initiative to make the public access to 11 critically acclaimed local and international films at the historic Garden City Cinema Palace in Cairo free of charge.
Launching With the October Victory Celebration
The month-long film festival is organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture with the goal of boosting local arts consumption. The programme began today with a special celebratory screening of the Egyptian military blockbuster “El Serb” (The Squadron) in celebration of the October 6 War Victory.
This effort will not only raise awareness of national pride but also introduce Cairo viewers to other narratives worldwide. The state is also doing its part to make quality free movie screenings in Cairo available to all classes of people without the burden of ticket prices.
The Complete 11-Film Lineup
Official schedules confirmed by Youm7 and Nile News state that the Garden City Cinema Palace will be screening films every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 8:00 PM. The 11-film programme is carefully curated and consists of:

- Diplomacy (European Cinema Club) – Oct 7
- The Edge of Democracy (Documentary Club) – Oct 12
- American Hustle (World Cinema Club) – Oct 13
- Frantz (European Cinema Club) – Oct 14
- Planes (Animation Cinema Club) – Oct 19
- War of the Worlds (World Cinema Club) – Oct 20
- Cesare Deve Morire (European Cinema Club) – Oct 21
- Khan El Khalili (Novel and Film Club) – Oct 26
- The Trial of the Chicago 7 (World Cinema Club) – Oct 27
Expanding Cairo’s Arts and Culture Accessibility
The majority of the screenings will be followed by a serious discussion with the film critics Essam Helmy and Nashwa Nabil. According to Washwasha, this all-encompassing collection makes for a successful marriage between popular commercial film and critical film theory.
