Macron Hosts Global Leaders to Discuss Lebanon Crisis Amid Israel-Hizbollah Conflict
France is increasing its efforts to showcase itself as a key player in the Middle East. President of France Emmanuel Macron is increasing their efforts to assist Lebanon. Macron will host a conference with senior foreign officials to discuss humanitarian aid for Lebanon, on Thursday. During this discussion, they will explore the solutions to end the conflict as Israel intensifies its operations against Hizbollah.
Macron supported the importance of the sovereignty of Lebanon. As the Financial Times reported, the French President stated that France would always defend Lebanon. Although the chances of a ceasefire are slim but France is supporting the need for a political solution by involving all parties.
Historically Lebanon is a part of French diplomacy, so it is a priority for Macron, despite waning French influence in the region. The conference by Macron aims to raise funds to address the humanitarian crisis and support Lebanon.
While the U.S. is considered the primary power with influence over Israel, Macron is leveraging France’s historical ties with Lebanon and diplomatic channels with Hizbollah and Iran to push for peace.
