Oujda’s Maghreb Book Fair Returns for Its Sixth Edition: Dates, Programme and What to Know

Maghreb Book Fair

This month, the literary scene in the east of Morocco is to be celebrated. The Maghreb Book Fair is back in Oujda for its much-anticipated 6th edition with thousands of readers, authors and publishing professionals coming to the Oriental region.

The gigantic cultural event, “Lettres du Maghreb” (Letters of the Maghreb) will be held from October 27 to November 1, 2026. The festival is supposed to restore Oujda as a major hub of dialogue and creative innovation in the region, as told by the organizers of the event.

This comes after a lot of public interest in the previous years, which has been enhanced by authorities greatly upgrading the venue. The central exhibition will be expanded this year to an esplanade of Oujda’s Stade d’Honneur with a new surface area of 5,000 m2, enabling the growing number of visitors and various occasions for literary performances.

A Diverse Programme Promoting Cultural Exchange

An active and diverse programme of ideas, encounters and artistic expression make up the 6-day event. The main program will feature cultural briefings delivered by the Le360 and panel discussions, along with direct public meetings between the forefront Moroccan and international writers and researchers, reported Le360.

Lettres du Maghreb seeks to break the cycle of intermediaries between readers and publishers, and thus make new publications and current debates accessible to all. A dedicated space for young readers, interactive conference rooms, and a literary café for book signings will be part of the huge exhibition space.

Beyond the Main Venue – Maghreb Book Fair

One of the hallmarks of the sixth edition is the bringing of culture beyond the walls of traditional exhibition sites. The fair’s organizing committees, with the support of the Oriental Development Agency, are making the event more decentralized to help people participate in the fair widely.

At Mohammed First University, and the historic Omar Ibn Abdelaziz High School, the popular events will be organised as described by local cultural media. In addition, a unique effort for social inclusion will see reading events and discussion not only at Oujda’s local prison but also inside the prison.

The visitors will also be entertained by a series of poetry evenings, artistic ensembles and an exhibition of visual arts present by big artists from the region of the Orient.

Addressing Artificial Intelligence in Literature

Book fair this year will highlight traditional literary arts as well as address modern technological disruptions. One of the primary discussions of the 2026 agenda will be the increasing role of AI in literature and publishing.

Specialized panels will explore the effects of digital technologies on the production, dissemination and reception of information. The authors and experts will discuss the extensive potential and the great threats that AI presents to IP and the future of cultural production. The programme, which has a strong forward-looking emphasis, ensures the festival remains very relevant to the dynamic global publishing industry.

Reinforcing Oujda’s Cultural Profile

This festival has been an important success since a long time, which has a strong impact on the economic and cultural revival of the east of Morocco. Oujda is also a major cultural capital of North Africa, with its success in hosting such an event, highlighting its importance. International publishers, academics and tourists bring much needed economic benefits to the local hospitality and retail industry.

The organizers hope to capitalize on all the momentum that was gained in the previous years, with tens of thousands of visitors each year. The overall vision is to create a book that is a “living crossroads” of culture, generation, and imagination.
