Middle East tensions: Multiple bus explosions put Israel on high alert
Three buses exploded in Israel on Thursday night, raising serious concerns about a possible terrorist attack and prompting authorities to halt all buses and trains across the country. There are no reports of injuries in the blasts.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that he had instructed the police and intelligence forces to step up measures in different cities to address any subsequent attempted attacks, according to media reports.
The three buses had been parked at different depots in Bat Yam. Unexploded bombs have also been found in parking lots in the nearby city of Holon. Bat Yam remains on high alert but its routine continues as usual.
Ofir Karni, director of the Dan bus company, informed the media that the last passenger on one of the buses that exploded last Thursday had a noticed a suspicious bag on a back seat and had alerted the driver. It exploded after they exited, he added.
