Red Sea International Film Festival take two concludes with winning Saudi film

The Red Sea International Film Festival, which celebrated the new storytelling trends and emerging talents from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the rest of the world, concluded its round two on December 8 with a winning of a Saudi film.

Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, Indian actor Hrithik Roshan, Hong Kong actor and filmmaker Jackie Chan and Pakistani actress Mahira Khan appeared on the red carpet.

Filmmaker Jackie Chan reportedly said that the ceremony night coincided with his 60th year in the film industry. He further added, “I want to thank the RSIFF for this and I want to share this with friends around the world.”

Many young talents were awarded at the film festival. Jeddah-born Saudi actress Sarah Taibah, who is 33 years old, has won the young rising star award. Taibah said, “I feel grateful for being honoured in my country and city.”

A Saudi film also won an award. Saudi-Kuwaiti production “How I Got There” won the Film AlUla audience award for best Saudi film at the event. Singapore-South Korean production “Ajoomma” won the Film AlUla audience award for best film.

The Silver Yusr for short film went to “Will My Parents Come to See Me” and the Silver Yusr for Red Sea virtual reality went to “Eurydice.” The Gold Yusr for Red Sea Virtual Reality went to “From the Main Square.”

Another achievement for Saudi Arabia was “Within Sand.” The competition jury prize went to “Within Sand,” a Saudi feature film. The director of the film, Mohammed Alatawi, reportedly said, “The film is based on actual events that happened in Saudi in early 1900.”

Lebanon’s Nadine Labaki was honoured with Variety International Vanguard Awards at the event. Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor also received an award.

RSIFF’s third edition will be held next year in the Kingdom. The event supports the Kingdom’s film industry.
