Saudi and Chinese foreign ministers chair a joint committee meeting

The foreign ministers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and China chaired a high-level Chinese-Saudi Joint Committee meeting on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia and Wang Yi, the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China reviewed the relations between both nations, discussed ways to improve cooperation, and signed off on the executive work program of the Political Affairs Committee.

The meeting between the ministers was held virtually. Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, Saudi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, also attended the meeting.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said that China attaches great importance to the China-Saudi Arabia relationship. He also said that China is willing to enhance communication and collaboration with the Kingdom in the United Nations, BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), G20 (Group of 20) and other platforms.

For his part, Prince Faisal said that Saudi Arabia and China have established a high degree of political trust in recent years. He further said that the China-Saudi Arabia High-level Joint Committee has played an important role in enhancing the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman, the Minister of Energy, also met with Lian Weiliang, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission of China. During the meeting, Lian affirmed Saudi Arabia’s efforts in maintaining the stability of global oil markets.

The two ministers also discussed decarbonisation technologies, electricity and renewables, hydrogen, energy efficiency, civil nuclear energy, and supply chain security. They also agreed to jointly coordinate investments in the countries of the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI). China views the BRI as an important initiative for the country.
