Uber’s data reveals unparalleled travel and movement within Qatar and across the larger region as fans from all over the world packed their kits and made their way to the area for the most thrilling football event yet.

Through innovation with new goods & features and the provision of more sophisticated safety features on the platform, the Uber app has worked throughout the competition to assist sports fans from all over the world in experiencing simpler, more efficient travel.

The information gathered through the Uber app during this historic event sheds light on the beneficial effects the tournament had on the area and provides information on changing consumer behaviour.

During the four weeks of the tournament, 2.6 million passengers travelled across Qatar via trips ordered using the Uber app, aiding Qatar in meeting unprecedented demand for transportation. Football fans made a total of 441,612 trips to and from the 8 stadiums using designated Uber pick-up and drop-off locations.

During tournament season in Qatar, visitors from Saudi Arabia were the second-largest group of riders. Travellers from throughout the world: In 2022, we reached pre-pandemic levels of travel. Uber users from 95 nations visited Qatar, 91 visited the UAE, 87 visited Egypt, and 83 visited Saudi Arabia in just one month, greeting tens of thousands of tourists to the area.

UAE, USA, India, UK, Kuwait, Mexico, France, Egypt, Germany, and Spain made up the top 10 nations for visitors to Saudi Arabia. With a total of 110,000 journeys, Khalifa International Stadium received the most requests from riders.

The 850 journeys made by Qatar’s top driver indicate the prospects for income generated throughout the season. The longest ride was 313 kilometres, which included many pauses, sightseeing opportunities, and of course, football games, as the rider circled Qatar.

“This was a milestone event for all of us in the region, and we’re delighted to have helped millions of people travel around pleasantly, safely, and economically,” said Norhen Ali, Uber’s Head of Communications for MENA.

This was a sizable project at one of the busiest times in the history of the area, but it has shown the value of successful teamwork and genuine creativity. There is a growing demand for additional goods and features, and more drivers are getting paid more. As the area takes the lead in leading important global events, we look forward to using our technologies to make travel even more convenient.
