Star Wars and Thor actor Ray Stevenson passes away at age 58

Ray Stevenson, an actor who starred in popular TV series like Rome, Vikings, and Dexter, passed away at 58.

He was well-known for his parts in the Divergent series, the Thor movie franchise, and several UK television programs like Band of Gold, Peak Practise, and Murphy’s Law.

The BBC was informed of his passing by his publicist company, Viewpoint, based in the US.

It has been reported that the actor was hospitalized while filming on the Italian island of Ischia, but it is not yet clear what caused her death.

The action film Cassino was in the process of being developed when he passed away in Ischia.

In the days leading up to his 59th birthday, news of his passing broke that he had passed away.

Stevenson was born in Northern Ireland, but his family moved to England when he was eight years old. It was close to Lisburn, County Antrim, his father served in the Royal Air Force (RAF) when he was born in 1964.

He spent a significant portion of his formative years in Newcastle upon Tyne after his family relocated there.

Stevenson was motivated to pursue acting after seeing John Malkovich perform in a play at a London West End theatre.

While studying acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, he played one of his first TV roles in the Catherine Cookson drama The Dwelling Place.

Later, he appeared on numerous British television programs, including Waking the Dead, Dalziel and Pascoe, and At Home with the Braithwaites.

In the high-profile Hollywood production King Arthur, which starred Keira Knightley, he played a knight.

More recently, Stevenson was cast in popular US-produced TV shows and films, playing the parts of Titus Pullo in HBO’s historical drama series Rome and Volstagg in the Thor trilogy.

In the upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Ashoka, he will play Baylan Skoll.

Greater-than-life OR larger-than-life Actor

Co-stars of Stevenson have been remembering the late actor on social media.

Stevenson was praised as a “brilliant, gutsy, larger-than-life actor who filled every part he played right up to the brim” by English actor James Purefoy, who co-starred with Stevenson in Rome.

Stevenson’s Ashoka co-star Rosario Dawson wrote on Instagram that her co-star was a “giant of a man” and that his passing had left her “stunned and reeling”

The late actor was described as “a joy to work with” by director James Gunn, who oversaw the second Thor movie’s production.

Bear McCreary, who created the music for the Black Sails TV series, praised Stevenson for his “mesmerizingly unforgettable” performance as Blackbeard.

Additionally, the Accident Man co-star Scott Adkins expressed his shock and sadness over the tragic news, saying, “I will miss you, Big Ray!”
