Turkish football club Galatasaray to start criminal proceedings against Jose Mourinho
Galatasaray has accused Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho of making “racist statements”, saying that it is going to initiate criminal proceedings against the Fenerbahce manager for his comments after a 0-0 tie in the Super Lig.
Mourinho shifted to Turkey from Roma last year after stints at multiple high-profile clubs such as Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Inter Milan. Galatasaray said on social media that the coach had “persistently issued derogatory statements”.
The exact statements the Turkish football club is referring to remain unclear. But Jose Mourinho reportedly said the home side’s bench had been “jumping like monkeys” and that the match could have been a disaster if a Turkish referee had been in charge.
“Today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments,” Galatasaray said in a statement. The club has formally declared its intention to initiate criminal proceedings and shall accordingly submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA.
