CNN has recently announced its plan to reduce the workforce.  CNN will lay off around 200 employees. This decision highlights the intention of CNN to increase its digital presence, as the world is changing. 

In an official memo to staff on Thursday, CNN CEO Mark Thompson stated, “Our objective is simple: to shift CNN’s gravity towards the platforms and products where the audience themselves are shifting.” CEO also hinted that these positions will be filled by new hiring in the digital wing.

This restructuring comes at a time when X is declaring itself as the biggest source of news and information but at the same time the ratings of CNN television are declining. It dropped the last U.S. presidential election.

What’s Next for CNN?

Company announced that these layoffs as a strategy to increase the digital presence. Reports are indicating that CNN is planning to launch new subscription products and allow digital subscribers to stream news across various devices. Warner Bros has committed $70 million to support these digital initiatives.
