UN Chief António Guterres Demands Permanent Gaza Ceasefire Ahead of October 7 Anniversary

On Monday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made a call for Gaza ceasefire ahead of the third anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2020.
Addressing the Humanitarian Crisis and Hostages
In his statement broadcasted by the UN News, the head of the organization pointed out that it was time to have a ceasefire, carry out the humanitarian aid, and follow the international law. Mr. Guterres described the Hamas attacks as “horrifying” and referred to 1,200 killed Israelis, while 251 people were taken hostages.
At the same time, Mr. Guterres pointed out that the Palestinian people in Gaza suffered huge “losses in lives, dislocation and destruction”, and called for the immediate stop of their suffering. As stated by the Palestinian Health Ministry, whose data is supported by the UN data, the military actions by Israel killed more than 74,200 people.
The Fragile State of Regional Peace – Gaza ceasefire
According to TRT World and Channel Africa, the UN secretary general stated that the ceasefire in October 2025 was only temporary and did not create real peace and security. The Saudi Gazette reports that Israel has reiterated its unwillingness to depart from any part of the Palestinian lands until Hamas is disarmed. The conflict has escalated quickly and has now involved Israel’s operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, as well as a series of incidents with Iran.
