Palestine Cinema Days 2026 Launches Global Program: Today’s Birzeit Screenings and Films Showing Around the World

Palestine Cinema Days

The international film community comes together today, November 2nd, 2026, for the first day of Palestine Cinema Days 2026. The event was organized completely by cultural institutions in Ramallah and is part of the Palestine Cinema Days Around the World project that has seen dozens of simultaneous screenings take place at independent cinemas, universities, and arts centers worldwide.

The intent of the launch date is to coincide with the 109th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration of 1917. The date was chosen with care by the organizers of the festival, with the explicit aim of giving voice to Palestinians and directly challenging historical erasure, to make the “historical” Palestinian situation visible to the world.

The traditional manner of conducting festivals on the ground has been substantially modified because of the critically volatile geopolitical situation in the region. Therefore, the leading body in organizing the festival, Filmlab Palestine, has transformed from a local event into a global resistance movement, with a focus on decentralization.

This unprecedented logistic shift makes the festival unsilenced by physical borders, border closures, and military checkpoints.

How the Birzeit Screenings are Pivoting to Digital

The cultural and operational centre of the festival is now the Palestinian Museum in the West Bank. The institution today closed its operations schedule for the localised screenings, taking a hybrid and digitised first approach, in line with current security and movement restrictions.

These special Birzeit screenings will be held on a continuous basis until November 4, per official announcement from the Palestinian Museum. The museum’s digital broadcasting platform enables local residents and the global community of people to safely access curated documentaries without having to travel through unsafe routes.

The institution considers such digital showings as an important part of its role to preserve cultural artifacts. The museum is also contributing to the ongoing war by ensuring these films can be accessed directly by their local audiences.

Europe and the Americas Champion Palestinian Filmmakers

Today, leading cultural centers and modern art institutions around the world have enthusiastically embraced the project, holding their auditoriums for different Palestinian filmmakers.

The level of participation is unparalleled in Europe. Foragers (2022) is a new film by the team of Stela and Jessica Frontera, which is currently being screened in exclusive format at MACBA, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona. The team of Stela and Jessica Frontera presents Foragers (2022) in an exclusive format at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA). The award-winning documentary, directed by Jumana Manna, looks at the nexus of nature, occupation and survival, telling the story of the traditional practice of wild forage for za’atar and Israeli legislation against it.

In Warsaw, meanwhile, the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art hosts A Fidai Film at its home, an eloquently moving exhibition of looted Palestinian historical archives, produced by Kamal Aljafari. The film will also be presented at Warsaw, where Mahdi Fleifel’s To a Land Unknown is showing similar to the harrowing story of the Palestinian refugees stuck in Athens.

In Brussels, Ruq’ah is placing a great emphasis on the female story with the release of Gazawyat. The anthology is a powerful film, with four different short documentaries: Fidaa, Hadeel, Maha, and Noor. This body of work is a self-created work of Filmlab Palestine, and shows a direct and authentic view of the strength and existence of women in the Gaza Strip.

The impact of the initiative is strong in the Americas, too. The City of Asylum in Pittsburgh, USA, is on a ‘Yalla Parkour’ documentary tour as its main event this year. The main attraction for the City of Asylum this year is ‘Yalla Parkour’, a documentary on the ways youth in the Gaza Strip discover their freedom, physically and psychologically, through parkour.

Preserving the Narrative Through Global Solidarity

Other venues with screenings today, all of which are officially participating, range from independent art-house theaters in Santiago, Chile to university auditoriums in Tokyo, Japan. This huge decentralized involvement model officially marks the 2026 event as the biggest coordinated cinematic event in Palestinian history.

As seen in cinema, this approach helps to keep the festival away from the local censorship and collapse policies. The organizers have managed to create a very flexible cultural corridor, linking the local Birzeit screenings with hundreds of physical events that are part of the Palestine Cinema Days Around the World initiative.

In conclusion, Palestine Cinema Days 2026 goes beyond mere entertainment. The Palestinian narrative is vibrant, visible, and well understood worldwide, thanks to the tireless efforts of Palestinian filmmakers and cultural partners around the world.
