Hamas in Cairo: New Push for Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

Negotiators representing Hamas traveled to Cairo on Saturday as they met with Egyptian officials for an important meeting regarding a solution to end the prolonged Gaza conflict, which erupted in October of 2023. Hamas representatives have started dialogue to share their complete peace framework with its main requirements:
- A permanent ceasefire across the Gaza Strip
- A prisoner exchange agreement with Israel
- Complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
- Immediate launch of reconstruction efforts in the war-torn region
The militant group declared through its statement that it will study the worsening Gaza humanitarian situation produced by Israeli blockade measures. The delegates from Hamas underlined how immediately vital it was to enable crucial food provisions and medical materials into Gaza.
A community support committee has emerged as a vital aspect of the agenda to administer Gaza civil affairs and takes charge of internal governance decisions.
Hamas senior official Mahmoud Mardawi stated the group shows willingness to negotiate flexibly under conditions specified by the Egyptian-Qatari-U.S. mediation process.
Mardawi insisted that Hamas demands worldwide promises to end all military action before accepting any settlement related to the war.
Israel stopped its supply deliveries to Gaza on March 2 because the former six-week ceasefire ran out. Military operations by Israeli forces became active again on March 18, which led to the official end of the phased truce terms.
The negotiations in Cairo demonstrate the most recent initiative to resolve a conflict which has been responsible for severe distress among Gazan civilians, together with regional stability disturbances since its onset one year ago.
