Iran Calls For Selection Of The New President For Lebanon Without Foreign Interference
Hossein Amirabdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has stressed the need to elect the new President of Lebanon through dialogue and domestic compromise as well as without any kind of foreign interference.
Amirabdollahian met with Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Friday. The two ministers held discussions on bilateral, regional and international issues.
Amirabdollahian called for the selection of a new president. He urged Lebanese authorities to hold internal dialogue and consensus among various Lebanese parties without any foreign interference.
According to Tasnim News Agency, the Iranian minister said, “We see Lebanon’s progress as Iran’s own progress and Lebanon’s stability and security as Iran’s own stability and security.” He reiterated Iran’s support to Lebanon. He also said that Iran would not interfere in internal matters of Iran.
During the meeting, Mikati and Amirabdollahian discussed the situation in Yemen, Palestine and Ukraine. They discussed various measures to end the conflict in these regions. The Iranian foreign minister also stressed the need to establish stability in Yemen.

They also talked about sanctions on Iran. Amirabdollahian slammed “anti-Iranian” sanctions. Mikati talked about Lebanon’s political process and the issue of electing a president in the country. He also called for efforts to end political problems.
Since 2019, Lebanon has been facing its worst-ever financial crisis. The Beirut port explosion in 2020 also affected the country. Mass protests, corruption, scandals, and mass migrations have also led to poor economic conditions.
Since 2021, Lebanon has been suffering due to a political crisis. The parliament in Lebanon is also unable to elect a new president. The ongoing crisis has alleviated the suffering of the Lebanese people. Many people are already fed up with poor economic conditions and a lack of opportunities in the country.
Last year, Mikati called for the election of a new President within the constitutional time frame before President Michel Aoun’s tenure ended on October 31.
