Iraq Sends Off Harsh Worded Letter Over Iranian Led Attacks On Iraqi Kurdisan Region
In a sad show of power, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has been accused for launching ballistic missiles and 20 drones laden with explosives on innocent civilians residing in Iraq’s Kurdistan region. In response, Iranian Ambassador to Iraq was handed over a strong worded letter aka ‘note of protest’ according to Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Al Sahaf’s statement to the media recently.
The letter was handed over to Iranian ambassador by Mr. Sahaf, as a sign of protest over the shelling of Iranian-Kurdish opposition groups in the country’s north. The incidents have led to the death of 13 people and injury to many others.
The Iraqi-Kurdish regions seem to have been in focus of violence meted over by Iranian forces. The recently slayed Mahsa Amini belonged to the same area. Her death has rocked Iran for the last 11 days.
Ironically, Iran has now accused the Iranian-Kurdish groups of involvement in nationwide anti-government protests over the death of young Amini in police custody. Instead, her family has suspected she was tortured by the moral police before she went into coma and lost her life.

However, counter-terrorism service in Iraqi Kurdistan has confirmed that in fact, Iran launched a series of attacks from 1.15am on Wednesday that targeted the Azadi Kurdistan Party, the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan and the Toilers of Iranian Kurdistan, as well as camps housing Iranian Kurds. The attacks were carried out in four stages in Erbil and Sulaimaniyah province, the statement said.
“These attacks targeted public places such as kindergartens, schools, hospitals and health centres, houses, cars and event halls,” it added.
At least 13 people were killed, including a pregnant woman, and 58 others wounded, the majority of whom were young children, teachers, students and journalists, it said.
Iraq’s note of protest said it “condemns this crime in continuous aggression by the Iranian forces against Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial sanctity”, the Foreign Ministry said.
