How Jordan Just Climbed to Sixth Place on the 2026 Arab Digital Economy Index Today

Arab Digital Economy Index

Jordan today officially took the sixth place in the highly competitive Arab Digital Economy Index, according to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship. With significant advances made across eight assessed technological pillars, the Kingdom has generally performed above the regional average due to its significant gains in the policy arena in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

This week, the national tech industry has made a huge leap forward in the region. According to official government briefings on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Jordan just climbed to sixth place on the newly released 2026 Arab Digital Economy Index.

This is the best score the Kingdom has ever recorded in the annual, biennial report on the digital readiness of a region, which has been monitoring digital readiness in the region since 2018. An official index, endorsed by the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, thoroughly assesses the management of digital sovereignty and data control as well as technology adoption by the Middle Eastern states.

Jordan outperformed the region by a huge margin, with an innovation score 53.8 points higher than the regional average, and an emerging technology score of 53.8 points higher than the regional average, according to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), an official state news outlet. Furthermore, the best overall scores were achieved for social and economic impact (71.85 points) and digital governance and institutions (60 points).

Perfect Scores in National AI Strategy and Cybersecurity

The detailed report emphasized the unparalleled growth at home during the last two years. One key factor contributing to Jordan’s higher position is its national AI strategy, where the country achieved a perfect score of 100 points for the implementation of the national AI strategy.

In addition, there was a big investment in upgrading critical state infrastructure. According to the official figures, Jordan’s national cybersecurity readiness increased from 70.5 in 2024 to an almost perfect rate of 98.3 this year. At the same time, the Kingdom’s integrated e-government services have increased from 46.8 points to 75.9 points and the emerging tech adoption has risen from 27.9 points to 76.8 points.

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship said these quick gains were the result of a “bold plan” aimed at digitizing government services and making government data networks more secure that spans multiple years.

Bridging the Gaps in Jordan Digital Readiness

As the government celebrates such policy successes at a macro level, these indicators also gave it a blueprint to follow in its economic reform efforts in the future. If Jordan is to continue its upward trend, it is important that it has to tackle some specific gaps at the consumer level in the market.

The report, analysed by the Jordan Times, revealed that many areas need urgent attention to improve. These vulnerabilities are related to the improvement of digital trade logistics, the spread of domestic online shopping and the increasing of consumer digital payment.

Most significantly, the report raised concerns that the local tech startups are still facing challenges obtaining enough early-stage capital funding. To keep its leading engineering and software talent, the state will need strong and readily available VC funding, or risk that talent going to other tech hubs in the Gulf.

In the end, these validated positions demonstrate that institutional technology systems in Jordan are well competitive in the global arena. The Kingdom is striving to become a key digital anchor in the Levant by working closely with international development institutions such as the World Bank in order to close funding gaps in the private sector.
