According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in the previous week, 1,088 migrants were saved and sent back to Libya.
IOM released a statement saying that from December 25 to December 31, 2022, 1,088 migrants were stopped and sent back to Libya.
According to the announcement, 1,241 women and 776 children were among the migrants who were saved.

The IOM said that a total of 24,684 migrants were saved and sent back to Libya in 2022. It also said that 525 migrants perished and 848 others went missing while travelling along the Central Mediterranean route off the coast of Libya.
Many migrants, predominantly Africans, made the decision to go from Libya across the Mediterranean Sea to European coasts due to the unrest and insecurity that have plagued the nation since the overthrow of late dictator Muammar Gaddafi’s rule in 2011.
Despite several appeals from the international community to close these facilities and free the migrants, rescued migrants typically wind up inside congested receiving centres all around Libya.
