Breaking: Mauritania Mihnati Programme 2026 Launches: Who Qualifies and What Equipment Will Youth Receive?

Mauritania Mihnati Programme

The operational phase of the Mauritania Mihnati Programme 2026 was launched on Thursday, November 5, 2026, by the Mauritanian Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training. The primary aim of the programme is to change young Mauritanians from the theoretical training phase to the active entrepreneurship and self-employment phase.

The state authorities stated during a press conference in Nouakchott that the programme is aimed at delivering targeted professional equipment to young people having completed the vocational course at the expense of the government very soon. The main purpose of this measure is to decrease the regional youth unemployment level by providing traders with an opportunity to open their own small businesses.

Who Qualifies for the Mauritania Mihnati Programme 2026?

To be eligible to receive government grants in the form of the equipment mentioned above, the applicants should meet some eligibility requirements, which are stated in the regulations of the Mihnati vocational training programme. According to the regulations, the young people whose ages are between 18 and 35 are the only beneficiaries of this programme.

Based on directives shared by the Agence Nationale pour l’Emploi (Techghil), candidates should be residents of Mauritania and also possess a recognized diploma or certificate from any national vocational training institute. The priority is being given to youth who live outside the capital city of Nouakchott but especially to those belonging to rural communities that have suffered the most from recent economic crisis.

International development partners, for their part, have stressed for some time already the real necessity of decentralizing economic opportunities in the Sahel region. The government plans to prevent youth from migrating from rural areas to cities through high commitment to regional inclusiveness.

What Mauritania Youth Employment Equipment Is Provided?

The main task of the Mauritania Mihnati Programme 2026 is the complete removal of initial barriers to business establishment for young graduates. Instead of giving money, the state will provide specific business equipment to the entrepreneurs.

The latest economic activity assessment provided by USAID shows that the sectors with the greatest possibility for creating new jobs in Mauritania are agriculture, artisanal fishing, mechanized mechanical engineering, and renewable energy industry.

Thus, the Ministry has started distributing tailored toolkits corresponding to the occupation of the beneficiary. Certified mechanics now receive the most modern auto-diagnostic devices as well as heavy-duty equipment. Young agrarian specialists are provided with solar-powered pumps and irrigation systems, allowing them to run climate-friendly agricultural projects.

Likewise, young women starting their careers in the handcrafts industry as well as in tailoring also receive sewing machines and huge amounts of materials to be processed. As stated by the African Development Bank it is known that transferring productive resources to women serves as an efficient measure for increasing socio-economic inclusion in North Africa.

Driving Sustainable Youth Employment

The implementation of the Mihnati 2026 project becomes an important step in the strategy of improving the economy in general. Youth unemployment remains one of the major challenges the country has faced, and this situation has been aggravated by the discordance between educational programs and labor market demands.

The media reports state that linking practical education with providing practical tools and equipment is the best way to resolve the problem. Overall success of the Mauritania  Mihnati Programme 2026 will depend on the results of the program.
