NATO Boosts Baltic Security as Finnish Police Investigate Tanker Incident
On Saturday Finnish officials announced that they are relocating a detained tanker to a port area for further investigation. The vessel carrying Russian oil is suspected of damaging an undersea power line and four telecom cables.
After the start of Russia Ukraine war from 2022 the Baltic Sea nations have faced many situations like cut off power cables, telecom links, and gas pipelines. NATO is working to take control over these areas.
The Eagle S tanker registered in the Cook Islands. On Thrusday it was boarded by Finnish coast guards. Authorities plan to move it from the Gulf of Finland to Svartbeck, near Kilpilahti port. Police say this spot is better for investigations.

Customs officials says that the Eagle S is part of a “shadow fleet” of older tankers used to bypass sanctions on Russian oil.
The Kremlin also responded to the seizure of ship. They stated that it is not a major concern for Russia. Russia has denied involvement in any incidents of affecting the infrastructure of Baltic Sea.
