New President from Syria Visits UAE to Strengthen Ties in the Region

Syria’s newly elected president, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, has landed in Abu Dhabi to discuss with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. The two heads of state talked about the perspectives of the country and how they should proceed to work more closely with each other.

Sheikh Mohamed expressed all his wishes for the restoration of Syria and the accompanying peace and prosperity under the progressive leadership of Al-Sharaa, and assured the UAE’s total support for Syria’s unity, stability, and reconstruction efforts, which he described as indispensable not just for Syria but also for the entire region.

At Al-Bateen Airport, the new president was received warmly by the UAE Foreign Minister and other senior officials. The delegation also included Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shibani, who visited the UAE earlier this year.

This is significant in terms of Syria’s return to the new Arab diplomatic stage. Al-Sharaa, who took his oath as head of state in January following the demise of the Assad regime last December, is embarking on an important foreign mission to restore Syria’s international relationships. This trip to the UAE follows Rebuilding’s first foreign visit to Saudi Arabia in February.

Just last week, for the first time, Syria officially established diplomatic ties with South Korea, with both countries also agreeing to open embassies.

As Al-President Sharaa now enters into this new phase for Syria, these connections with both Arab and non-Arab leaders signal a strong ambition in returning the country to the global fold through diplomacy, development, and unity at the forefront.
