NFL Update: Former Raiders WR Hunter Renfrow Joins Panthers in Fresh Start

In a major signing on Sunday evening, the Carolina Panthers signed former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow to bolster their receiving corps. The South Carolina-born 29 year old, who spent last year out of the NFL after being cut loose by the Raiders in March 2024 is now going to start a new chapter in the Panthers.

Renfrow’s career burst wide open in 2021, when he helped out at a Pro Bowl with solid numbers of 103 catches for 1,038 yards and nine scores. Yet, in the next two years, Renfrow’s usage was greatly reduced, recording only 61 catches for 585 yards and two touchdowns in 27 games. In spite of his struggles over the past few years Renfrow has a lot of experience with 269 receptions for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns in 73 games (23 starts) since being drafted by the Raiders in the fifth round of the NFL Draft 2019.

Prior to his NFL success, Renfrow excelled at Clemson where he contributed to Tigers national championships in 2016 and 2018. Renfrow’s journey to the NFL was not without obstacles; he walked on at Clemson but became one of the team’s primary playmakers.

With the Panthers, Renfrow becomes part of an expanding and competitive receiving corps, featuring veteran Adam Thielen, second-year player Xavier Legette and first-round pick Tetairoa McMillan. The Panthers are still building around quarterback Bryce Young and Renfrow’s addition further enhances the team’s offense.

Renfrow’s signature is a thrill of a fresh new beginning for the veteran and the Panthers expect his experience and established competence will be able to lift their passing game during next season.
