On Wednesday Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani about the situation in the Middle East. They discussed the ongoing conflict in Gaza, where Israeli forces have been targeting Palestinians for over 13 months.

According to a statement from the Kremlin both the leaders called situation “an unprecedented escalation of tensions”.

Putin and Al Sudani also talked about the relations between Russia and Iraq. They talked about the growth on trade, transportation, and humanitarian efforts. During the conversation they highlighted the importance of energy projects. 

The discussion included their roles in OPEC+ emphasizing the need to continue working together to stabilize the global oil market.

Both leaders agreed to maintain regular contact at various levels.
