On March 10, Saudi Arabia, Iran and China signed the trilateral agreement, which aimed to resume diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia. The agreement was unveiled through a trilateral announcement. Earlier, the talks to resume diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia had been kept tightly under wraps. The Saudi foreign minister reportedly said that the agreement was the outcome of talks with China that lasted nearly two years.

Earlier this month, Saudi National Security Advisor Musaad bin Mohammed Al-Aiban and Iran’s secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Admiral Ali Shamkhani held five days of talks to sign the agreement.

After the signing of the agreement, Saudi Arabia and Iran also agreed to revive the Security Cooperation Agreement signed between the two countries in 2001.

The Saudi Press Agency said in a statement, “Saudi Arabia and Iran agree to respect state sovereignty and not interfere in internal matters.”

Recently, Saudi Arabia invited the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, for an official visit, according to a senior Iranian official.
