Syrian Chemical Weapons Programme Back in Focus as Government Reaffirms Destruction Pledge

The Syrian government has re-affirmed its commitment to the complete destruction of the Syrian chemical weapons programme, which is an indication that it is willing to participate in transparency and international relations. The officials of the U.N and international watchdogs have been pleased with the move terming it as a crucial step towards dealing with issues concerning the Syrian chemical weapons programme that was there long before. The new administration has also promised to collaborate with the Organisation of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) after several years of confusion in the previous regime. This new position will be to restore trust, unearthed locations, and to verify the destruction of the Syrian chemical weapons programme.
Renewed Cooperation With Global Watchdogs
The U.N office of disarmament affairs established that Syria is working in cooperation with the OPCW to remove the Syrian chemical weapons programme openly. Some of the places that have already been inspected are some of the sites that were never revealed before during the rule of Assad. It has been reported that there are more than 100 other sites that can be attributed to the Syrian chemical weapons programme which are way above previous claims. The government has also released thousands of documents and has also conducted interviews with ex-experts. International allies, such as the UK have vowed to come in with a financial and technical support in order to see the Syrian chemical weapons programme dismantled out of existence forever.
