The Sunday visit comes in response to a March agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran to mend fences, mediated by China.
The official Oman News Agency said that “Sultan Haitham bin Tariq will go on an official two-day visit to Iran… in response to an invitation from the Iranian president.”
The visit will also examine ways to improve Oman and Iran’s collaboration in several fields.
The trip comes one year after Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi signed a number of commercial agreements during his visit to Muscat.
Oman maintains strong links to Iran and assisted in mediating negotiations between Tehran and Washington leading up to the 2015 nuclear agreement.
