Turkey-Syria earthquake: death toll exceeds 9,500; WHO warns that “time is running out”
As the death toll from the terrible earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria topped 8,700, a frantic search is being conducted to identify additional survivors and assist the injured. Despite worldwide aid from many nations, including India, the search is still ongoing despite the bitter cold and numerous tremors that have complicated the rescue efforts.
A powerful 7.8 earthquake occurred on Monday, affecting parts of southeast Turkey and northern Syria. According to Turkey’s emergency management organisation, there have been around 5,400 fatalities and 31,000 injuries nationwide.
According to the Health Ministry, there have been over 800 fatalities and 1,500 injuries in Syria’s government-controlled territories.
More than 9,500 people have died as a result of a major earthquake that slammed Turkey and Syria, according to government data. For a third day, rescuers are attempting to reach stranded survivors.

73 rescue workers from Japan have been dispatched to Turkey along with supplies like food, portable generators, life detectors, drills, and medical kits.
By Wednesday morning, the Disaster Management Authority (AFAD) reported that 6,234 people have perished in Turkey as a result of earthquakes in the country’s south.
According to the organisation, there are already 37,011 people injured, and more than 79,000 people are working on search and rescue missions.
According to Syrian official media and a rescue team operating in the northwest that is controlled by insurgents, the dead toll in Syria from a severe earthquake has topped 2,500.
More than 1,280 people have died and more than 2,600 have been injured in insurgent-held regions, the White Helmets rescue organisation reported on Twitter.
