The EU and Turkey on March 9 discussed ways to address the shortcomings of the migration agreement between Brussels and Ankara on March 18, 2016.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this at a joint press conference with European Council President Shardem Michel following the EU-Turkey summit in Brussels.

The politician also criticized the actions of the Greek authorities in relation to refugees trying to enter the territory of this country from Turkey.  “Any disproportionate use of force is unacceptable.  Any intervention should be adequate, ”said von der Leyen.

However, she noted that in this situation, “migrants and Greece need help, but Turkey also needs it.”

According to her, despite the existing disagreements, the negotiations with the Turkish leadership were “open, constructive and sincere.”

The politician emphasized the need to keep open the channels of dialogue between Ankara and Brussels.  “This is a precondition for resolving the crisis on the Greek-Turkish border,” she explained.

President of the European Council Charles Michel, in turn, said that the heads of diplomacy of the EU, Josep Borrel and Turkey, Mevlut Cavusoglu, will hold consultations to clarify the position of both parties regarding the implementation of the migration agreement of March 18, 2016.
