Israeli Airstrikes Hit Beirut and Southern Lebanon
Early Saturday Israeli warplanes launched heavy airstrikes on Haret Hreik, a neighborhood in Beirut’s southern suburbs, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) and Anadolu Agency.
The Israeli army warned residents in the area to evacuate buildings marked as targets. Maps shared by Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee highlighted the targeted buildings, which he claimed were close to Hezbollah-linked sites.
“Evacuate these buildings and nearby ones immediately, staying at least 500 meters away,” Adraee instructed.
This attack follows four waves of airstrikes on Friday that reportedly targeted Hezbollah command centers, weapons depots, and other facilities in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Additional strikes were reported in Nabatieh towns and areas in southern Lebanon’s Tyre district, including Shamaa and Majdal Zoun.
Israel began its air campaign against alleged Hezbollah targets in Lebanon in late September marking an escalation in ongoing cross-border tensions.
Since last October Israeli strikes have reportedly killed over 3,400 people, injured nearly 14,600, and displaced more than 1 million in Lebanon, according to Lebanese health officials. Despite warnings of a broader conflict in the region, Israel expanded its operations with a ground offensive in southern Lebanon earlier this month.
