Syrian Forces Destroy Massive Drug Cache Including One Million Captagon Pills
Syrian security forces burned one million captagon pills and large quantities of cannabis and tramadol at the security establishment in the capital, Damascus on Wednesday.
The operation that was conducted by the new Syrian authorities was aimed at this substance in particular, called captagon which sources claim was produced in large quantities during the rule of the previous president, Bashar Assad. A security official named Osama was quoted by AFP as saying that the country is faced with a massive problem of drugs due to the huge seizure.
The destruction process seen by the AFP journalists involved security personnel in the drenching of the contraband with fuel before burning it. The cache contained about 50 bags of pink captagon pills as well as quantities of cannabis and the prescription painkiller called tramadol. This public destruction shows a new government’s willingness to fight against the drug barons and production that had been a thorn in the area.
