After this announcement of steeping down by Halevi, Yaron Finkelman, the head of Israel’s southern command, also resigned.
Opposition leader Avigdor Liberman took political advantage of this matter and taunted Netanyahu and other ministers to follow Halevi’s example and take responsibility for the failures.
The leader of the Jewish Power party also welcomed this resignation and called for a strong new military leader to focus on defeating Hamas.
