The biggest state-backed banks in Egypt were the first from the banking sector to coordinate a correction on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026. Egypt Banks Raise Savings Returns, The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) and Banque Misr announced an immediate rise in the yields of retail investments.

It’s the much-awaited Financial directive with the launch of the new Egypt state banks 18.85% savings certificate for all the immediate issuances. The new rate focuses on the top-selling three-year savings certificates Egypt to give it a competitive edge to bring in domestic funds and safeguard investors’ buying power.

The new interest rates will be implemented for all physical branches and digital banking platforms from Sunday, November 8, as per joint statements given to the domestic press. The coordinated move is in response to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) tightening its monetary policy stance to tackle the continued inflationary pressures.

What Changes on 8 November for Investors? – Egypt Banks Raise Savings Returns

The key change on November 8 will be the base rate of interest for new retail deposits. In the case of individual customers, the choice of the National Bank of Egypt Banque Misr will automatically have an impact from this date, with any new certificates for three years with fixed rates bought on or after the date transferring the higher annual return of 18.85%.

The officials of the banks have revealed that this strong yield will be distributed to the depositors of the banks monthly. A steady monthly income that’s also high yielding is very crucial to the financial support of middle-class households that heavily depend on passive, steady income to afford the increasing cost of living, financial experts at Enterprise Press say.

Existing customers who have certificates of lower yields would continue to abide by the normal banking redemption policy. Existing certificates can’t be liquidated instantaneously, the client must wait at least six months from the date given to the initial day of the certificate for a partial or total redemption; the redemption may come with preordained financial penalties.

Broad Economic Impact of the Egypt Interest Rate Increase 2026

These certificates with a high yield in Egyptian pounds have been introduced for two macro-economic reasons. State banks are playing an active role in the fight against demand-driven inflation by taking the surplus money off consumer market.

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has released economic indicators which say that controlling domestic liquidity is important in stabilising the local currency. Premium certificates are a burden on the state-owned banks in the past, as they have subsidized their issuance with the aim of achieving wider national monetary and fiscal goals.

Moreover, Egyptian Banks Federation (FEB) has asserted that these high yield products have been incorporated into the digital banking systems in Egypt. Customers are able to apply for new certificates through BM Online or NBE Al Ahly Net services without having to worry about waiting in line at bank branches.

The Ministry of Finance confirmed that increasing access through digitization of retail investments is also aimed at avoiding congestion and facilitating capital accumulation.

In summary, the announcement about the increase of Egypt interest rates for 2026, along with the introduction of 18.85% interest yield, further emphasizes the importance of public banks in compliance with their obligations regarding protecting the interests of their clients.
