Have UK and France proposed a partial Ukraine ceasefire agreement?
France and the UK are proposing a partial one-month ceasefire in Ukraine that is going to include air, sea and energy infrastructure attacks but not ground fighting, according to French President Emmanuel Macron and his foreign minister.
The comments come amid a flurry of European diplomacy designed to increase support for Ukraine after a bitter meeting featuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his US counterpart Donald Trump on Friday, reported Reuters.
Such a partial truce agreement is expected to help Europe determine if Russian President Vladimir Putin is actually in good faith if he commits to a ceasefire, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on Monday.
But on the same day, UK armed forces minister Luke Pollard declined to confirm the ideas aired by Macron and Barrot, stressing that it is probably not right for him at the moment to comment on each option being discussed, as per the media agency.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Sunday that European leaders have reached an agreement to prepare a Ukraine peace plan to present to the US. But he did not go into details. Keep an eye out for more updates.
