Egypt’s Gaza Reconstruction Plan Ready for Presentation at Arab Summit

Egypt said its reconstruction plan for Gaza, designed to keep Palestinians in their homeland, is ready to be presented. The plan will be debated at an emergency Arab summit in Cairo on Tuesday. The summit follows tensions over President Donald Trump’s contentious proposal which would put U.S. control over Gaza and resettle Palestinians. Arab countries quickly turned down this proposal and Egypt is now striving to introduce its competing vision to the world.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty stressed the significance of global support and funding especially from European countries for the reconstruction process. He stated that plans are in place for intensive negotiations with the major donor states after the plan is adopted.

In the meantime, Israel has denied access to aid trucks into Gaza escalating tensions as the ceasefire deal moves into its second stage. Abdelatty decried the utilization of aid as an instrument of collective punishment. He reasserted Egypt’s dedication to upholding the ceasefire which has been being adhered to by Israel and Hamas for six weeks.

After the summit, there would be an emergency meeting with foreign ministers from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Saudi Arabia to finalize further action. Egypt will try to showcase the outcome of the summit to the world in the best possible manner.
