Kuwait University Opening New Career-Oriented Programs in Science
The College of Science at Kuwait University is launching three new academic programs to help prepare students for an ever-changing job market. The newly established programs are Cybersecurity, Financial and Actuarial Mathematics, and Data Analysis, and highlight the university’s responsibility to foster capability for national development and digital advancement. Dr. Haidar Behbehani, Acting Dean, stated that the college is committed to equipping students with the right combination of skills and knowledge to be successful in today’s workforce.The Cybersecurity program is focused on a broad range of studies, such as data security, digital cryptography, network security, protection, and, overall, data protection. Dr. Zaid Dashti, Acting Head of the Computer Science Department, stated the course has been designed to align with ABET (the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) and international standards in the field to allow students to graduate as specialists prepared to secure digital systems in both government and private sectors.
The Financial and Actuarial Mathematics program is offered by the Mathematics Department and it incorporates a mathematical component with the ability to analyse future trends in areas of insurance, investments, pensions, etc. Dr. Mishari Al-Furaih stated that as well as an analytical component it also provides practical training options and is at all levels, “Society of Actuaries” accredited.
Meanwhile, one of the new programs is the Data Analysis specialization in the Statistics Department which will underpin areas including business, health and engineering. Dr. Fatima Al-Madhkour stated that Data Analysis was always going to be a popular course as Kuwait shifted digitally and so the need for data to produce decisions became more prevalent.The new programs are designed both to help graduates obtain employment and assist with the longer-term development plan for Kuwait, New Kuwait 2035.
