Kuwait’s Health Care Transformation: What’s Changing and Why It Matters
Kuwait is progressing well to advance its health care system to global standards, improving infrastructure, technology, and patient care to bring it in line with global standards. Healthcare transformation goes hand-in-hand with the country’s Vision 2035, which promises an overall healthier population someday.
Hospital expansions and technology upgrades
Per Gulf Business, the Ministry of Health is expanding existing top hospitals, increasing patient capacity, and using advanced technology in facilities for better efficiencies and access for patients. Eng. Ibrahim Al Nahham, the assistant Undersecretary for Engineering Affairs, stated that there are several new medical projects either complete or in the pipeline.
Groundbreaking hospitals are establishing new standards
New Maternity Hospital: Newly built in the Sabah medical zone, an environmentally friendly building dedicated to women and newborn health, utilizing sustainable designs and state-of-the-art technology.
Al-Sabah hospital: Built to be future-ready, this hospital spans nearly 88,000 sq m and will have 512 patient beds, 72 outpatient clinics, 105 ICU beds, and a helicopter pad.
A focus on Public health and Cancer care
Communicable Diseases Hospital (224 beds), designed for infectious disease control with emergency, radiology, and pharmacy departments. Kuwait Cancer Control Centre (303,536 sq m.) with a total of 618 beds (oncology mega-hub) has separate towers for outpatient (287 beds) and inpatient (331 beds) oncology services.
Al Adan Hospital project – a healthcare mega-hub
One of the biggest developments with the new Al Adan Hospital complex includes:
- A 637-bed maternity and pediatrics hospital.
- A surgical block hospital with 141 beds.
- A state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre.
- An administrative and parking building, 8 floors high.
Investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals
The Ministry of Health is developing national capacity in the healthcare workforce through projects, training programs, scholarships, and international partnerships to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals to meet the challenges of the future.
