Algeria’s Clean Energy Push: Nine Solar Plants Set to Power the Nation in 2026

In an effort to speed up its renewable energy process, Algeria is planning the nine solar plants in Algeria to be operational by 2026, which will significantly make the power mix cleaner. Having a total capacity of 1,480 MW, the opening of nine solar plants in Algeria is a long-term commitment by the government to diversify the power sources and minimize reliance on fossil minerals. These projects are components of the comprehensive project known as the Project of the Century which seeks to erect 15000 MW of renewable power by the year 2030. Developing nine solar plants in Algeria will enhance energy security, sustainability objective, and make the country a leader in clean energy within the region.
Key Solar Projects and Capacity Expansion
Of the 9 solar plants in Algeria, there are two large plants, including El Ghrous in Biskra and Tindela in El M’Ghair, with each one providing 200 MW and set to start operations by the end of January 2026. All the other nine of the solar plants in Algeria are included in the initial 3,200 MW criteria of the country programme. The balance in the energy mix will involve nine geothermal plants in Algeria, which will combine renewables and traditional power, with the gradual change being encouraged, according to officials. In general, nine Algerian solar plants demonstrate the willingness of this state to develop clean energy and ensure its sustainability.
