Morocco’s New MAD 250 Silver Coin Issued for Unity Day: Design, Weight, and What Collectors Should Know
The national central bank Bank Al-Maghrib issued a new and unique Morocco MAD 250 silver coin on Friday 30th October 2026. This highly awaited release particularly highlights the first anniversary of the new national holiday of Morocco Unity Day 2026, celebrated throughout the Kingdom on 31st October.
The Bank Al-Maghrib commemorative coin will be an important collectible and a tangible part of the country’s history. Financial officials confirmed that the release was only for the purpose of “respecting the country’s social and territorial cohesion which has existed since the reign of His Majesty King Mohammed VI”.
Coin collectors and investors are keenly watching the coin’s detailed physical characteristics. The official from the central bank said the commemorative piece had been made out of a premium alloy made up of 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent copper.
The King Mohammed VI silver coin is 38.61mm in diameter and 28.28g in weight. For appeal to the high-end collector market, the piece has a special reeded border and proof minting finish with a sharp, mirror-like finish, renowned worldwide.
Exploring the Coin’s Intricate Design and Cultural Symbolism
The design of the Morocco MAD 250 silver coin has an artistic integration of the country’s linguistic and cultural diversity. On the obverse (front), a large portrait of King Mohammed VI dominates the design, with the official inscription “Kingdom of Morocco” in both Arabic and Tifinagh script.
In addition, the front face proudly showcases the dual year of issue, in accordance with the Hijri and Gregorian calendar, as 1448-2026.
The other side of the coin is an indirect homage to the October 31 holiday. It is inscribed in Arabic and French “First Anniversary of Unity Day” and is surrounded by olive branches, which frame the official Moroccan coat of arms, which is beautifully encircled by olive branches.
The commemorative date (October 31) is written in Arabic, and the denomination of the coin (250 dirhams) is clearly written both in Arabic and Arabic numbers.
A Major Milestone in Moroccan Numismatics – Morocco MAD 250 silver coin
The minting of this piece is a big milestone in the Moroccan modern numismatic world. According to Hespress English, this particular issuance makes the new national holiday a national physical finance history.
It is a profound celebration of the territorial unity of the Kingdom and the historical ties of the Moroccan peoples which was introduced this year by the State planners. The government with its authorisation to the Bank Al-Maghrib to mint this piece of silver, is making sure that the date is perpetuated for future generations.
The central bank has not announced any specific mintage quantities or limits on the sale of the coin in circulation, but proof versions are usually limited in supply. Interested collectors and citizens are invited to contact their local bank branches or Bank Al-Maghrib Museum to acquire following the protocol.
Historically, the special issue coins released by the Moroccan central bank sold out very fast. Evidence from earlier royal commemorative ceremonies reported by state media such as Maghreb Arabe Press (MAP) and economic publications like L’Economiste suggests these silver pieces appreciate rapidly in the secondary collectors’ market.
In the end, the successful launch of the Morocco MAD 250 silver coin serves a double purpose. The government successfully commemorated the first-ever Morocco Unity Day 2026 by combining high minting standards with deep national symbolism.
