Saudi, US foreign ministers hold talks on Iranian interference

The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and the US discussed strengthening coordination between the two countries to stop Iranian interference in the region.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan of Saudia Arabia along with his American counterpart, Antony Blinken, discussed strategies to stop the Islamic Republic’s financing of the Houthi militia in Yemen and terrorist groups that threaten international peace and security.

During the meeting which took place in Milan, Italy the two officials talked about a long term plan and measures of strengthening the strategic partnership between the Kingdom and the US to serve common interests on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Affairs Ministers. Along with this, they also spent few minutes developing a strategic plan around prominent topics which were raised at the G20 meeting.

These Foreign ministers met after two years as due to the coronavirus pandemic the officials of major economies of the world had restrained all kinds of physical meetings. Blinken and Prince Faisal met with France’s foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Dria as well to discuss the latest regional and international developments. US Secretary Blinken tweeted that the need for Lebanon’s political leaders to show real leadership by implementing overdue reforms to stabilize the economy and provide the Lebanese people much-needed relief.

Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister discussed with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief the importance of imposing the necessary mechanisms for a rapid and comprehensive inspection of all Iranian nuclear sites. The country is aiming towards developing a robust nuclear system that can be efficiently used to stop Iranian policies and violations of international laws that destabilize the security and stability of the region and the world.
