Egypt to host G20 meeting for the first time in September 2025

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it will host and organize, for the first time ever, an official G20 meeting for food security, scheduled for early September 2025.
This announcement comes after successful discussions between Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola at the G20 Sherpa meeting that took place in South Africa from June 25 to 27. At the meeting, which only took place on the sidelines of the meeting, Egypt’s Presidential representative and Assistant Foreign Minister for Regional and International Economic Affairs, Ragy el Etreby, confirmed the closing agreement with South Africa for this official G20 meeting.
According to Etreby, this will be the first G20 meeting for Egypt since the founding of the G20 group in 1999. Also, the focus of the meeting will be food security, which is a fundamental issue globally in developing countries like Egypt and African countries.
Some of the challenges that the meeting is going to look at include: sustainable agriculture, stimulating local industry, expanding markets and trade, improving infrastructure, technology transfer, and financial support systems; to enable to the G20 more globally and the region more aligned food security.
