Iran nuclear deal has no future: German coalition party official
Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal or JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) “has no future and is not in line with reality”, said a senior German coalition party official.
Reportedly, Bijan Djir-Sarai, general secretary of Germany’s Free Democrats (FDP), told Web.de News and Gmx News that continuing talks on the nuclear deal would mean “negotiating with an inhuman regime.”
Djir-Sarai, who was born in Iran, said, “This agreement has no future.” He also said that Iran has “no legitimacy.” The transcript of the interview was released by the FDP.
Efforts to revive the nuclear deal have stalled. The relationship between Iran and world powers has also deteriorated after the United States accused Iran of supplying drones to Russia for use in its war against Ukraine. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani, also said last month that the United States (US) lacked the political will for the revival of the deal.

Talks to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal with world powers started last year in April in Vienna, the capital of Austria. World powers and Iran have held several meetings for the revival of the deal. The EU (European Union) has made significant efforts to revive the deal.
However, the talks were stalled when Iran demanded that the US must remove the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) from the State Department’s list of Foreign Terrorist Organisations. Iran also demanded the closure of the United Nations nuclear watchdog-International Atomic Energy Agency’s investigation of its nuclear activities in the undeclared sites in the country. However, the United States said that Iran needed to cooperate with the IAEA.
Iran signed the nuclear deal in 2015 with the US, France, Germany, Britain, Russia and China. Under the agreement, Iran said to limit its nuclear activity to civilian purposes in return for relief from the sanctions by the US, EU and United Nations.
