In a tragic road accident in Iraq on Saturday, at least 16 people were killed, including Iranians. Thirteen people were also injured, who were taken to hospitals.

According to a report by the Iraqi state news agency, the accident took place on a road linking two cities in Salahuddin province, located north of Baghdad. Most people who died in the road accident were from the Islamic Republic of Iran. The injured people were in critical condition, according to a local medical official. They were seeking treatment for their injuries at a local hospital.

Recently, a tragic accident also took place in Nassiriya, a city in Iraq. The accident led to the killing of at least nine Iranian pilgrims. On Monday, a bus carrying Iranian pilgrims crashed with a truck in the Iraqi city, as reported by Reuters citing medical sources. The pilgrims were en route to the holy Shi’ite Muslim city of Karbala when the tragic incident took place.

According to medics, at least 31 people were also injured, including women and children. Five people were admitted to a hospital in critical condition.

In September 2022, a similar incident took place in Iraq. A minibus carrying Iranian Shia Muslim pilgrims crashed with a truck in the Babil province south of Baghdad and burst into flames. The tragedy reportedly took the lives of 11 Iranian Shia Muslim pilgrims and one local bus driver.

The spokesman of health authorities, Ahmed Al-Jibouri, told the media that four other pilgrims were in critical condition. They were reportedly taken to a hospital for further treatment. The driver of the truck was arrested by the authorities. According to sources and reports, he was apprehended for further questioning.

Last month, a French soldier named Sergeant Baptiste Gauchot was also killed in a road accident in Iraq. Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, confirmed the French soldier’s death. France’s armed forces ministry said that the soldier was seriously wounded because of the Iraq road accident. He died at Arbil hospital because of his injuries.
