It is crucial that Biden continues the negotiations around Iran nuclear deal
Iran, at present, is undergoing a significant shift of events – something that one can argue was brewing for a while – given the extremely authoritarian regime in Tehran that has evidently strangled the progress of once a very liberal country. The women are the most suppressed under the regime as is the free speech and any dissent.
On Saturday, Euro News reported that “a video was posted by the Norway-based organization Iran Human Rights purported to show protests in the northeastern city of Mashhad, Iran’s second most populous city, with demonstrators chanting ‘Clerics get lost’ and drivers honking their horns.” Social media has been flooded with videos showing harassment of Iranian women, beaten and arrested at hands of Iranian authorities.
According to the New York Times, “Iranian security forces killed two female teenagers after they joined the widespread protests”. The newspaper added, “The bodies of 16 year olds Nika Shakarami and Sarina Esmailzadeh were returned to their families bruised and disfigured”. Anger is widespread across Iran and it is being well perceived by the world.

US President Joe Biden said from California, “It stunned me what it awakened in Iran. It awakened something that I don’t think will be quieted for a long, long time.” He was addressing at a college in Irvine as a group of protesters held “Free Iran”. To them Biden said, “I want you to know that we stand with the citizens, the brave women of Iran.”
This didn’t sit well with Iranian regime as Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani accused US President Joe Biden of interfering in his country’s internal affairs. He said, “Biden interfered in Iran’s state matters by supporting the riots … In recent days, the US administration has tried desperately to inflame unrest in Iran under various excuses.”
Now, the question arises how can US and Biden administration ensure that the challenging voices against Iranian regime do not get suppressed. One way is continuing the negotiations around Iran nuclear deal, earlier known as JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action). Biden administration must reconsider its decision to step back from the Iran deal negotiations. The regime in Iran cannot be trusted with any words and can be only checked by curbing its aggressive nuclear programme.
