Morocco’s AI Ambitions Soar as King Mohammed VI’s New Economic Vision Targets Digital Supremacy

Morocco AI Ambitions

King Mohammed VI’s new economic vision laid the foundations for the Kingdom’s advanced technological development this weekend in a historic speech in front of the national Parliament, which gave this advanced technology a preferential position. The king highlighted unprecedented Morocco’s ambition in the field of Artificial Intelligence, which prompted a comprehensive development of national strategies dedicated to the digital economy and AI, to ensure the country’s sustainable future.

On 9th October 2026, the King gave instructions to the government and the private sector to take urgent action with the aim of fast-tracking investments in digital infrastructure. This royal order clearly dovetails with the new Morocco IA 2030 roadmap, a huge state-sponsored tech plan.

The King stressed that AI is not an option anymore, reports EU Reporter. It has become an integral part of Morocco’s resilience at its core, industrial development and overall economic sovereignty.

The Morocco IA 2030 Roadmap Targets 100 Billion Dirhams

The Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform set the new and unprecedented financial goals to carry out these royal instructions. The government anticipates AI will make a significant impact on the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) by the end of the decade, adding 100 billion dirhams to the GDP, said Minister Delegate Amal El Fallah-Seghrouchni at the AUSIM Conference in Tangier.

Moreover, the plan is backed by Tech Review Africa and is certain to generate 50,000 new high-tech employment opportunities. The state also intends to actively build up more than 200,000 specialised AI talents to make sure the workforce can support this fast-paced technological flip.

These specialized frameworks are intended to be economical, open and very accountable. The government is looking to address the local needs in the Moroccan market and promote the development of its own software solutions for export to European and African markets.

Reversing the Traditional Tech Paradigm

This is a key step in the King’s policy of digital sovereignty. Rabat is looking to drastically lower the dependency on imports of foreign technologies through learning how to use local computing power, secure data centers, and own AI technologies.

The administration is making a strong use of these technological progress to revise its economic ties with the European Union, as pointed out by Morocco World News. In fact, Morocco is ready to not only consume European tech: it’s ready to be a co-developer and strategic exporter of digital innovation.

In the end, with the ambition of AI to be realized in Morocco, it will take a lot of concerted effort by both the public and private sectors to pull it off. For the Kingdom, if it manages to achieve its lofty 2030 goals, King Mohammed VI’s economic vision will undoubtedly cement its undeniable position as the Digital leader of North Africa, for decades, if not centuries, to come.
