Morocco Cuts Cancer Drug Prices by Thousands of Dirhams as New Medicine Rates Take Effect

The Moroccan government has officially announced that Morocco cuts cancer drug prices of highly-priced drugs. By cutting cancer medicine prices by thousands of dirhams, Morocco is witnessing the repercussions of new medicine rates on cancer patients and healthcare providers across the country.
The wide-ranging changes were laid out in Ministerial Order No. 2157.26, after reaching a formal agreement with the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AMMPS) and after broad consultation with the Interministerial Price Committee.
The regulatory modifications are directly aimed at 22 pharmaceutical presentations – across eight key brand-name drug categories. The goal is to ensure citizens have access to the life-saving treatment and services they need from oncology and chronic care while preserving financial sustainability of national health insurance programs.
Massive Savings on Advanced Oncology Treatments

There are also big reductions in price for more advanced treatments of breast cancer. Ibrance 100 mg oral capsules saw a price decrease of 24,024 dirhams to 17,066 dirhams in the retail sector and a decrease in net prices at hospitals to 16,739 dirhams.
Additionally, chronic immunological/or blood disorders treatments saw price increases. For example, the retail price of Enbrel 50 mg prefilled injection pens dropped by 6,315 dirhams to 5,005 dirhams, and there were significant price decreases for haemophilia and critical anticoagulants.
