Government Announces Morocco Transport Subsidies MAD 400 Million Plan

Morocco Transport Subsidies

A huge new wave of financial aid for logistics and transit has been officially approved by the Moroccan government. Morocco Transport Subsidies, Minister of Transport Abdessamad Kayouh announced the relief plan for transport subsidies in Morocco of MAD 400 million during a meeting of the government’s council on Thursday November 5, 2026.

The financial package is specifically targeted and geared towards supporting some 200,000 qualified road transport workers in the country. The first priority is to help mitigate the effects of shocks or volatile international energy markets coming into the domestic market, since local prices for diesel recently reached MAD 17/l at certain pump stations in Morocco.

The State has announced the weekly payments will start from November 10, in step with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

What the Moroccan Road Transport Fuel Aid Covers – Morocco Transport Subsidies

The Ministry of Transport & Logistics has set up a very specific payout-tier depending on the size, the commercial function and the overall fuel consumption of the vehicle. Allocated road transport fuel for the first half of November as follows:

  • Intercity passenger buses: MAD 5,600
  • Urban public transport buses: MAD 4,960
  • Road tractors (semi-trailers): MAD 4,800
  • Goods trucks (over 19 tonnes): MAD 3,360
  • Large taxis: MAD 1,760
  • Rural dual-transport vehicles: MAD 1,440
  • Small taxis: MAD 1,280
  • Towing vehicles: MAD 800

The commercial vehicles have to be registered with the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) in full if they are to qualify for these funds. In addition, all drivers who are eligible for registration must apply in a formal form on the government’s specific registration application system called Mouakaba.

The digital registration requirement, as reported by regional economic outlet Morocco World News, ensures that the state finances will flow straight into the bank accounts of transport professionals in activity, without passing through the administrative channels.

These funds are being released as pressure is building up from domestic trade unions calling for fare hikes of over 60 percent to help defuse operating losses, some of which have done so in recent weeks.

But Minister Kayouh clearly emphasized that this state aid is subject to conditions. The government requires transport operators not to increase the official price for transporting passengers or freight. The state is looking to remove this fuel cost burden directly, so it doesn’t pass through to consumers’ local markets in the form of higher prices for food and other necessities.

Mustapha Baitas, the spokesperson for the government and other cabinet members have said they are against reintroducing a universal across-the-board fuel subsidy cap for the general public, as mentioned by Hespress English. To restore the old compensation system will cost the national treasury around MAD 70 billion a year, which would impact on the financing of important social, rural, and housing programs.

In the end, it is a conscious fiscal equilibrium policy being pursued for the transportation subsidies in Morocco, valued at MAD 400 million. Rabat’s capital injection will only go through Mouakaba, the national registrar, to the commercial transit sector, which will help maintain national macroeconomic stability while also mounting a robust defense of the daily purchasing power of its citizens.
